Campylobacter infections cause a form of
gastroenteritis. These illnesses are
caused by bacteria called Campylobacter.
Campylobacter bacteria are often found in animals, especially
chickens, turkeys, and water fowl. Many young pets can also carry
the bacteria, including puppies and kittens.
Campylobacter infections occur throughout the world and can affect
all age groups. Outbreaks have been linked to common food sources,
most often undercooked poultry, unpasteurized milk, and water that has
not been chlorinated.
