Chlamydia Fact Sheet (PDF 80 KB)

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that is caused by the bacterium, chlamydia trachomatis. It is the most common treatable STI in the United States, infecting about three million American men and women each year.

Because symptoms of chlamydia are often mild or absent, serious complications can occur, including infertility in women and a discharge from the penis in men.
