Treatment for any communicable disease should always be done in
consultation with your health care provider.
For adults and children over the age of 12 months, a 3-day course of
nitazoxanide oral suspension can be used for treatment of diarrheal
illness due to cryptosporidium infection.
In addition to treatment, drinking a lot of fluids is important to
help prevent dehydration.
In persons with compromised immune systems, treatment with Human
Immune Globulin or bovine colostrum has been beneficial. For persons
infected with HIV, anti-retroviral therapy can decrease or eliminate
symptoms.
