Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for 7 to 10 days is effective therapy.  Treatment for patients that can not tolerate sulfa drugs have not been identified.

Those infected with HIV may need higher doses and long-term maintenance.

Drinking a lot of fluids is important to prevent dehydration.

Treatment Recommendations

  • Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
