Fifth Disease

Fifth disease is a mild rash illness caused by parvovirus B19, and only infects humans world-wide.

The rash occurs most commonly in children ages 5-15. It is usually a mild illness lasting from 1-3 weeks.

The ill child typically has a "slapped-cheek" rash on the face and a lacy red rash on the trunk and limbs.

There is no vaccine available for fifth disease.
