Fifth disease is a mild rash illness caused by parvovirus B19, and
only infects humans world-wide.
The rash occurs most commonly in children ages
5-15. It is usually a mild illness lasting from 1-3
weeks.
The ill child typically has a "slapped-cheek" rash on the face and a
lacy red rash on the trunk and limbs.
There is no vaccine available for fifth disease.
