Treating Hib

Hib Fact Sheet (PDF 13 KB)

Antibiotics, such as ampicillin in combination with chloramphenicol, are generally used to treat serious infections.

Rifampin is used to treat people who may be carrying the bacteria.

Treatment Recommendations

  • Ampicillin, in combination with Chloramphenicol for serious infection

  • Rifampin for carriers
