Early diagnosis and treatment of bacterial meningitis is crucial to
improving the outcome for the patient.
Treatment consists of appropriate antibiotic therapy as decided by a
health care provider.
Antibiotic therapy is not available for viral meningitis; however,
most patients will make a full recovery on their own.
Rest, plenty of fluids, and medicine to relieve fever and headache is
often recommended
