Mononucleosis is characterized by low-grade fever, sore
throat, swollen lymph glands, extreme fatigue, and often an enlarged
liver and spleen.
Approximately 4% of young adults will have yellow skin
and eyes (jaundice) due to this illness.
Symptoms usually last for about two weeks, but extreme
fatigue may last several months.
Infants and young children often will not have symptoms,
but will be contagious and pass the illness on to older children and the
occasional adult who is not yet immune.
