Fact Sheet

Head lice, also called Pediculus Capitis, are parasitic
insects found on the heads of humans.
Head lice infestations occur on the hair, eyebrows, and
eyelashes.
Outbreaks of head lice infestations are common among
children in school and institutions, especially in younger age groups
(3-10).
Head lice infestations are not related to socio-economic
position.
Animals can also become infested with lice; however,
lice are very "host-specific," meaning they will not spread to humans. |
