Diagnosing Rabies

Diagnosis of rabies is made through specific FA (fluorescent antibody) staining of brain tissue or virus isolation in mouse or cell cultures.

Presumptive diagnosis is made by specific FA staining of frozen skin sections taken from the back of the neck at the hairline.

Serological diagnosis is based on neutralization tests in mice or cell culture.
