Most staph infections are minor
and cause sores, such as pimples and boils. In many instances,
patients describe these sores as spider bites.
These infections can become worse
in some patients if left untreated, causing redness, swelling, and pus
just below the skin's surface (cellulitis).
Sometimes staph infections can be
severe, especially when the bacteria gets into the bloodstream (bacteremia).
It has also been known to cause surgical site infections and pneumonia.
