Hep C Connection to Sponsor Viral Hepatitis Conference

March 11, 2008—Denver—On Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 7, Hep C Connection, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Viral Hepatitis Program and the Colorado AIDS Education Training Center will host the 2008 Colorado Viral Hepatitis Conference at the Holiday Inn Select, 455 S. Cases of Diarrhea Caused by Parasite Are Higher Than Usual—Individuals Advised to Practice Proper Hygiene to Prevent Spread

August 31, 2007—Denver—State health officials Friday reported approximately 50 cases of cryptosporidiosis (crypto) have been reported in Colorado during August, an amount four times higher than what is usually reported for this time of year. More.


First Death from West Nile Virus in Boulder County This Season: Officials warn that risk of infection remains high

August 15, 2007—Boulder, CO—Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) has confirmed the first death from West Nile virus (WNV) in Boulder County for the 2007 season; it is the third death from WNV in Colorado this year. Previous deaths in Boulder County from WNV include one in 2006 and seven in 2003. More.


Hantavirus Deaths Reported in Three More Colorado Counties

July 17, 2007—Denver—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has confirmed three hantavirus pulmonary syndrome deaths in the past five days, one each in rural Custer, Costilla and Park counties. Investigations are being conducted to determine the source of each hantavirus exposure. This brings the number of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome cases in Colorado in 2007 to six, with four deaths.  More.


Rabid Bat may be Risk to Humans

May 25, 2007, Boulder — Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) is warning residents not to handle any bats, after a bat found on May 23 near Horizon K-8 School and Admiral Burke Park tested positive for rabies. BCPH staff is working with the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) to alert parents of the children attending that school, as well as the City of Boulder Parks and Open Space. The area will be posted with warning signs this afternoon.  More

March 2007 — In 2006, Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) received 852 communicable disease reports, a 2% increase from 2005 (835 cases). BCPH cases accounted for 6% of the total reports received by the state in 2006. More (PDF)
