2005-2006 Season
An estimated 10%-20% of U.S. residents get influenza
each year. An average of 114,000 people are hospitalized for
flu-related complications and 36,000 Americans die each year from
complications of flu.

Flu-Related Deaths in Children in the 2005- 2006 Season
During the 2005-2006 flu season, 41 pediatric deaths were
reported from 14 states. In Colorado, 2 children died.

Flu-Related Deaths in Children in the 2004- 2005 Season
During the 2004-2005 season, the CDC received reports from
16 states, including Colorado, of 36 pediatric deaths due to
laboratory-confirmed influenza. In Colorado, 2 children died – a 15-year-old
girl who had severe underlying medical conditions, and an 8-year-old girl
with a history of non-severe asthma.
2003-2004 Season
During the 2003-2004 season, over 14,000 Colorado residents
were sick from influenza, and 6,000 of them were children 4 years of age or
less. Twelve Colorado children died.
