Mosquito Population Lower Than '03

June 18th - Adult mosquito trapping is fully underway in Boulder County. Traps operated by Colorado Mosquito Control (CMC) show that adult mosquito numbers are at significantly lower levels than last year at this time. Most importantly, the numbers of the Culex species of mosquito - the type known to carry West Nile virus - has so far remained low as well. Only about 5.3% of the total amount trapped were Culex.

Based on trap results, CMC began limited, targeted ULV adulticide applications on June 9th. To date, 36.5 miles

Prevention
  1. Use DEET or alternative.
  2. DRESS in long sleeves and pants.
  3. Avoid DUSK until DAWN.
  4. DRAIN standing water.
