The New WIC Way: Foods and Your Health
Starting June 1st, WIC is bringing changes to the program that will
better meet the needs of participants.Some of the changes to the food
package include:
- Revision of infant food packages
- Addition of fruits and vegetables
- Addition of soy-based beverage and tofu as milk alternatives
- Addition of whole grains (cereals, bread, and other whole
grains, e.g. tortillas, brown rice)
- Reduction of some food allowances, including milk, eggs and
juice

Bat
Found at Public Library Tests Positive for Rabies
June 26, 2009 - Boulder, Colo. - Boulder County Public
Health (BCPH) has confirmed that a bat found inside the Longmont Public Library,
409 4th Avenue, has tested positive for rabies. The bat was collected by City of
Longmont Animal Control on June 24 and was sent to the State laboratory for
rabies testing. Test results from the laboratory have confirmed that the bat is
positive for rabies.

Squirrel Tests Positive for Plague in Longmont
Longmont, Colo. - A squirrel collected on June 1 by City of Longmont Animal
Control on Buffalo Court in Longmont has tested positive for plague. The
neighborhood area has been posted with signs listing precautionary measures to
avoid plague.

Energy and Fight Climate Change this Summer
EPA has published a list of energy-saving tips for the home
and office to reduce energy bills, air pollution, and
greenhouse gas emissions this summer. State, local, and
tribal governments can implement these tips in their
buildings and share them with residents and businesses.

Bat Found Near Longmont
Home Tests Positive for Rabies
May 27, 2009 - Boulder, Colo. - Boulder County Public Health
(BCPH) was notified on May 21st that a bat was found hissing
near a home in Longmont on May 15th. The bat was collected
by Boulder County Animal Control and sent to the State
laboratory for rabies testing. Test results have confirmed
that the bat is positive for rabies.

Mowing Emissions Reduced by Hundreds
May 22, 2009 - Boulder, Colo. - Boulder County Public
Health (BCPH), in collaboration with the Regional Air
Quality Council (RAQC), prevented hundreds of pounds of smog
from entering the atmosphere during their 2009 Mow Down
Pollution event, held Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Longmont
Fairgrounds.
