TITLE: Intensive Services Nightshift Attendant Counselor
SALARY RANGE: $1,030 - $1,484/month (plus hourly rate for 3
hours/month to attend required meetings)
(NOTE: new employees typically start at or near entry level)

OFFICE: Addiction Recovery Center (ARC) Valmont Site - 3180
Airport Road, Boulder, Colorado
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position is responsible for the
assessment and care of intoxicated and newly sober persons in a 20-bed
detoxification and transitional residential treatment facility,
including intervening in emotional and medical crises, providing a
therapeutic milieu, providing alcoholism/drug abuse information and
education, and assisting with treatment planning. The nightshift
attendant counselor will also serve as backup to the shift supervisor in
his/her absence. Attendance at meetings is required, as designated by
the Intensive Services Program Coordinator. This position is a
20-hour/week position with approximately 3 additional hours/month for
required meetings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts client intakes and evaluation, including client
histories, case notes, and discharges.
- Assists with treatment planning.
- Assists with client education.
- Assists with networking to other agencies, including Mental
Health Center Serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties, hospitals,
law enforcement, and the homeless shelter.
- Assists with coordination of medical and violent emergencies.
- Provides crisis intervention counseling to detox clients,
including individuals, groups, and families.
- Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Requires 500 hours work experience in the human
services field and CPR certification (current or within three months of
employment). Supervisory experience is preferred.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to learn symptoms and dynamics of alcoholism and
co-dependency methods of assessment, appropriate interventions, and
community resources.
- Physical assessment and intervention skills, including basic
first aid training and CPR training.
- Ability to work well under stress.
- Ability to work effectively with angry, resistant, and/or
intoxicated clients in an understanding, consistent, and stable way.
- Ability to work with teenagers.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public.
- Must show excellent judgment regarding client-related issues,
such as confidentiality, legal, and medical crises.
Special Requirements:
- Must meet Colorado Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD)
regulations regarding certification (CAC I certifiable within 24
months of hiring).
- If a non-practicing substance abuser, must have a minimum of two
years abstinence.
- Must have CPR certification (current or within three months of
hiring).

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: As an employee of Boulder County Public Health, you may be required to assist in response activities for disasters and emergencies (including acts of bioterrorism), which may occur outside of normal working hours. You may also be required to attend Incident Command Training (ICS) appropriate for your position.
