TITLE: Bilingual GENESIS (teen pregnancy/parenting program) Parent Educator
SALARY RANGE: $2,104 - $3,030 per month
(NOTE: new employees typically start at or near entry level)
PERSONNEL CLASSIFICATION: Program Assistant I
HOURS/WEEK: 40
OFFICE: Boulder Sundquist Site - 3482 Broadway - Boulder, CO
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This paraprofessional position assists pregnant/parenting
teens and their families in developing support and networking systems. Parent educators
will provide education, transportation, and role modeling in the home and in the community.

THE AGES OF THEIR CHILDREN.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as liaison between GENESIS families and other community
agencies; provides referral, advocacy, and follow-up services.
- Provides transportation for mother/child to appointments, which
enhances prospects for positive growth and development of the
mother/child.
- Educates clients on substance use/abuse as it relates to
pregnancy and parenting. Provides ongoing substance use assessment
and appropriate intervention/referral.
- Teaches positive parenting and basic life skills through home
visits, individualized parenting education, and positive role
modeling.
- Encourages self-sufficiency by assisting clients in reaching
educational/vocational goals.
- Provides ongoing assessment of parent/child interaction and
bonding.
- Provides ongoing assessment of child’s development.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate records in accordance with
GENESIS protocol.
- Requires extensive travel throughout Boulder County.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Three years of parenting experience, which must include experience as a
teen mother.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with early childhood development, ages 0-3.
- Ability to work with a diverse client population.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team player.
- Ability to model nurturing and caring behavior.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to relate successfully with the adolescent population.
- Knowledge of teen parent developmental issues.
Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid Colorado driver's license, current liability
insurance in accordance with Boulder County Policies, and a good
driving record.
- Must have a safe vehicle readily available for business use.
- Requires bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking skills.
IMMIGRATION REFORM AND CONTROL ACT: All new employees and

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: As an employee of Boulder County Public Health, you may be required to assist in response activities for disasters and emergencies (including acts of bioterrorism), which may occur outside of normal working hours. You may also be required to attend Incident Command Training (ICS) appropriate for your position.
