TITLE: On-call Child Care Provider
SALARY RANGE: $15/hour
HOURS/WEEK: Varies
OFFICE: Various locations throughout Boulder County
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position works within the Addiction Recovery
Division Outpatient programs providing child care for parents attending substance
abuse counseling on the premises. Children range in age from infant to 12 years old;
child care may be required for multiple children. Expected work hours typically would
be 1.5 hours in the evenings, although there may be need for coverage during the day.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides child care services for parents attending group or
individual sessions for up to 1.5 hours on-site. This includes the
care and supervision of children who might have emotional or
behavioral problems.
- Interacts with children from infant to 12 years of age by
reading, playing, and providing leadership for child care
activities.
- Ensures an orderly environment for the health, safety, and
security of children (including children with emotional or
behavioral problems).
- Maintains a clean child care environment, which includes
cleaning and disinfecting of the child care room and equipment.
- Maintains open communication with parents.
- Treats all children and parents with dignity and respect.
- Maintains familiarity with federal laws of confidentiality
pertaining to substance abuse clients.
- Reports any suspected child abuse in accordance with
regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must be a high school graduate.
Experience: Must have at least one year of experience working with children.
Experience working with emotional and behaviorally challenged children is preferred.
- OR -
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to coordinate and provide child care activities and
maintain a safe and orderly environment for children.
- Ability to provide child care in non-traditional child care
facilities (i.e., office space, churches, etc.).
- Ability to work well with infants, children, and adults and be
sensitive to the needs of the children and their parents.
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crawl, and climb in the
performance of assigned duties.
- Ability to work with children who may have behavioral or
problems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Willingness to work with a diverse population.
- Knowledge of addictions and its effects on children is
preferred.
- Willingness to attend training required for the position.
- Willingness to work evenings.
Special Requirements:
- Must be certified in infant CPR.
- Must be certified in first aid.
- Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: As an employee of Boulder County Public Health, you may be required to assist in response activities for disasters and emergencies (including acts of bioterrorism), which may occur outside of normal working hours. You may also be required to attend Incident Command Training (ICS) appropriate for your position.
