One Additional Human Death from West Nile Virus Reported
DENVER – An 83-year-old man from Pueblo County is the 47th
person in Colorado to die from West Nile virus, state health
officials reported Thursday. He was suffering from encephalitis
and died on October 17. This is the fifth West Nile
virus-related death for Pueblo County.
Also reported were 66 new human cases of West Nile virus,
bringing the state’s total to 2,543.
State health officials said that the new human cases are for
individuals who were infected with West Nile virus in
late-August through the end of September. Although West Nile
virus season is over in Colorado, such residual cases will
continue to be reported through November as the department’s
investigations are completed.
More information on West Nile virus can be found on the Web at
www.FighttheBiteColorado.com or by calling the Colorado Health

toll-free hotline, which is staffed by trained operators, is
open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.
