STOUFFER’S CHICKEN POT PIES RECALLED DUE TO
CONTAMINATION
DENVER—State health officials Thursday urged consumers, who purchased
Stouffer’s Chicken Pot Pies from Safeway locations in Colorado, not to eat
them until checking to see if they are included as part of a voluntary
recall.
A limited quantity of the 16-ounce packages of “Stouffer’s Chicken Pot
Pie” were recalled by Nestle Prepared Foods Company of Solon, Ohio, after
the company received several consumer complaints and reports of minor
injuries. The pies, manufactured by the Canadian-based company, Morrison
Lamothe, Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, are reported to be adulterated with
small pieces of glass and/or plastic.
Susan Parachini, wholesale food program manager of the Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division, said,
“While no injuries have been reported in Colorado due to the pot pies,
there have been reports of minor injuries in other states.”
In addition to being sold at Safeway Stores in Colorado, the pot pies
were sold at Safeway Stores in Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota and
Wyoming.
The recall affects only the 16-ounce Stouffer’s Chicken Pot Pies. No
other sizes or varieties of Stouffer’s brand products are affected by the
recall. The recalled products bear the code “445” inside the Canadian mark
of inspection on the package; the UPC code “13800-10635;” and the
production code “4066VH (A-Z).
Parachini urged consumers who purchased the pot pies at Safeway locations
and may have them in their home freezers to look for the codes for the
products that may have been contaminated.
If they find the indicated codes on the frozen pot pies in their homes,
consumers are urged not to consume the product and return it to the place
of purchase. For more information, contact the Department of Public Health
and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division at (303) 692-3620.
