COLORADO’S ORGANIC CHEMICAL STANDARDS TO BE REVIEWED

DENVER - The Colorado Water Quality Control Commission has
scheduled a public rule-making hearing at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 13,
to consider proposed revisions to the statewide water quality standards
for permissible levels of organic chemicals, such as pesticides and
solvents, in surface and ground waters in the state.
Also to be considered at the hearing are updates to
site-specific water quality classifications and standards for ground
water.
The hearing will be held in the Sabin Room at the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment, 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, in Denver.
Revisions to these regulations have been proposed by the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Water Quality
Control Division as staff to the commission.
Copies of the proposals are available on the commission’s

The following parties have expressed an intent to formally
participate in this hearing, including Schlage Lock Company; Teck Cominco
Limited; Raytheon Aircraft Company; City and County of Denver; Waste
Management of Colorado; Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company; Barrick
Gold Corporation; Shell Oil Company; Colorado Wastewater Utility Council;
Alliant Techsystems, Inc.; the City of Boulder; Emerson Electric Company;
Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry; Metro Wastewater
Reclamation District; Dover Industries, Inc.; Colorado Mining Association;
and the El Paso County Commissioners.
Other parties that have expressed an intent to formally
participate in the hearing include The JRW Family Limited Partnership; the
South Adams County Water and Sanitation District; Colorado Department of
Transportation; U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8 ; Stephen
A. Bain; U.S. Department of Energy, Rocky Flats Project Office; John D.
Fognani. Other interested persons are encouraged to submit written
comments to the commission at or prior to the hearing, or to provide oral
comments at the hearing.

September 1, 2004, will be distributed to commission members for review
