Colorado Water Control Commission to Hold Hearing
December 26, 2006, DENVER - The Colorado Water
Quality Control Commission has scheduled a public rulemaking
hearing at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, to consider changes to
current provisions regarding water temperature criteria and
standards in the Basic Standards and Methodologies for
Surface Water, and in the water quality standards
regulations for each of the state's river basins. The goal
of the hearing is to identify in-stream temperature levels
that will be protective of aquatic life, while recognizing
variations in temperature resulting from natural conditions
and irreversible human impacts. The meeting, which is open
to all interested persons, will be held in the Sabin Room at
the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment,
4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, Denver. Two different
versions of revisions to the regulations have been proposed,
one by the Department of Public Health and Environment's
Water Quality Control Division, serving as staff to the
commission, and one jointly from a group of municipalities,
water providers, power plants and other industrial
dischargers. The group is comprised of the city of Aurora,
the city of Boulder, Colorado Springs Utilities,
Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment, the Metro
Wastewater Reclamation District, Colorado Mining
Association, Colorado Rock Products Association, Tri-State
Generation and Transmission Association, Xcel Energy, Denver
Water, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and
Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy. Copies of the
proposals, a notice explaining the rule-making procedures
and other written documents submitted for this hearing are
available on the commission's Web site at
