E. coli O157:H7 Contaminated Beef Patties Recalled
September 27, 2007—Denver—The
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s
Consumer Protection Division Thursday advised consumers who
may have purchased frozen beef patty products produced by
Topps Meat Company of New Jersey to dispose of the products
or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. This
week, Topps Meat voluntarily recalled approximately 331,600
pounds of the frozen ground beef products because of
potential contamination with E. coli O157:H7.
Daniel Rifkin, Wholesale Food Program manager for the
Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer
Protection Division, said, “E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially
deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and
dehydration. The very young, seniors and people with
compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to
foodborne illness. Anyone who ate the products and is
experiencing intestinal illness should contact his or her
health care provider.”
