Allergy Alert Issued for Annie’s Naturals Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette Dressing

February 13, 2008—Denver—Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment officials Wednesday advised consumers who may have purchased 8-oz. bottles of Annie’s Naturals Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette Dressing at grocery and natural food stores in Colorado between Dec. 20, 2007, and Feb.12, 2008, about potential allergic reactions due to product mislabeling.

The dressing is being recalled as it may contain soy, wheat and sesame, which are not declared on the ingredients label. Individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious allergic reaction if they consume the product.

The recalled products contain a front label that says Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette, while the back label and ingredient statement says Low-Fat Honey Mustard Vinaigrette. Only 8-oz. bottles of the dressing with UPC code 0-92325-33319-2 and a “Best By” date of 02/20/09/1/E and 02/20/09/2/E are affected. The 16-oz. bottles of Shiitake & Sesame Vinaigrette and other Annie's Naturals products are not affected by this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled dressing were advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or call Annie's Naturals Consumer Relations at 1-800-288-1089 to obtain a coupon for a free product.

The company reports that there have been no illnesses to date due to the label misprint.

Health officials advised anyone who has consumed the product and is concerned about an allergic reaction to contact a health care provider immediately.

The product is part of a voluntary recall of 686 cases of 8-oz. bottles of all-natural dressing initiated by the manufacturer, Annie’s Naturals of Napa, Calif.

Consumers may contact the Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division at 303-692-3620 for further information.
