Worksite Wellness Conference to be Held on National Employee
Health and Fitness Day
Monday, May 12, 2008 - DENVER - The Colorado Physical
Activity and Nutrition Program of the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment and the American Cancer
Society are sponsoring Colorado's first Worksite Wellness
Conference at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday, May 21.
The goal of the conference is to provide employers with
tools and resources for establishing and enhancing work site
health promotion programs.
Leaders from public and private work sites, benefits and
human resources professionals, wellness coordinators, health
professionals and insurance industry professionals are
encouraged to attend.
Eric Aakko, director of Colorado Physical Activity and
Nutrition Program, said, "Investing in employees' health
pays off with increased productivity, healthier behaviors
and decreased health risks. We hope participants will be
inspired by the benefits of work site wellness programs and
will assume leadership roles by investing in the health of
their employees."
Aakko said that participants will receive evidence-based
recommendations and take-home strategies for establishing
work site health promotion programs that can be tailored for
their organizations.
Following are a few highlights on the conference agenda.
7:45 a.m. Opening session: "Aligning Incentives to Produce
High Performance." Presented by Dr. Wendy Lynch, vice
president for Strategic Development, Human Capital
Management Services, Inc.
8:30 a.m. Executive Breakfast Keynote: "Workplace Health
Promotion: Make it Easy, Make it Popular, Show Them How."
Presented by Dr. Jeffrey R. Harris, director of the
University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center
and professor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services.
12:30 p.m. Afternoon Keynote Address: " Make it Happen! Life
Lessons on Leadership and Wellness." Presented by Dr. Joseph
Quatrochi, professor of Human Performance and Sport at
Metropolitan State College of Denver and president of
Quatrochi Wellness Consulting Services.
1:30 p.m. Panel discussion: "Employee Engagement Strategies:
Successes and Lessons Learned."
Concurrent breakout sessions on healthy work site cultures,
measuring success and identifying program solutions also
will be held in the morning and afternoon.
