Companies to Receive Colorado Environmental
Leadership Awards
Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 -
Denver - On Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment, in cooperation with the
Pollution Prevention Advisory Board and the Colorado
Environmental Partnership, presented the ninth annual
Environmental Leadership Awards at the Denver Zoo. The
awards recognize Colorado organizations with Gold, Silver
and Bronze designations for voluntarily going beyond
compliance with state and federal regulations and for their
commitment to continual environmental improvement.
This year’s program recognized
15 new Gold Leaders, including Alpine Bank, the Denver
Zoological Foundation and KMG Electronic Chemicals Inc.,
which joined 18 other companies and organizations designated
as Gold Leaders. There currently are an additional 25
companies designated as Silver Partners and 30 companies
designated as Bronze Leaders.
In addition, Denver
International Airport received the “24-Karat Gold Award.” It
is a traveling trophy, with the winner determined by the
other Gold Leaders. Each Gold Leader company was asked to
submit one environmental/sustainable event, project or
community outreach effort that went “above and beyond”
what’s required in environmental statutes and Denver
International Airport emerged as the winner.
The event began with a
breakfast in the zoo's Norgren Hall, followed by the awards
presentation. This year more than 200 government, business
and community leaders attended the program.
The Colorado Environmental
Leadership Program is a statewide environmental recognition
and reward program administered by the Department of Public
Health and Environment's Sustainability Program. The program
is open to all Colorado businesses, industries, offices,
educational institutions, municipalities, government
agencies, communities, nonprofits and other organizations.
