Louisiana Fish Fry Products Issues Nationwide Allergy
Alert on Undeclared Buttermilk in "Chicken & Fish Bake
Seasoned Coating Mix"
Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008 - DENVER – The Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment announced today
that Louisiana Fish Fry Products of Baton Rouge, La., has
recalled 6-oz. packages of “Chicken & Fish Bake Seasoned
Coating Mix” because they may contain buttermilk that is not
listed on the label. Individuals with allergies to milk
products run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they
consume this product.
The recalled "Chicken & Fish Bake" was distributed
nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. In
Colorado, the product was distributed to Safeway, King
Soopers, smaller retail outlets and through Internet sales.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with
this problem.
The product comes in a 6-ounce bag marked with a “Best
By” date from Jan. 1, 2008, thru Sept. 25, 2011. Each
package also bears the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s mark
of inspection and the establishment number EST P-9018. The
recalled meals were produced on Aug. 18, 21 and 28; Sept. 9,
19, 25 and 30; and Oct. 6, 17, 18, 22 and 27.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the
buttermilk-containing product was distributed in packaging
that did not reveal the presence of buttermilk. Production
of the new product with buttermilk included in the
ingredient statement has been initiated.
Consumers who have purchased 6-ounce packages of "Chicken
& Fish Bake Seasoned Coating Mix" are asked to return them
to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with
