Boulder County Public Health Communications Office 303-441-1457
New Environmental Health Manager in Boulder County
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 - Boulder,
Colorado - Following an extensive nationwide recruitment
and interview process, Joe Malinowski has been named the new
Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) Environmental Health
Division Manager. The position was made vacant when the
previous manager, Jeff Zayach, was named as the agency's
executive director.
"The process was thorough, and the
candidates were exceptional. That says a lot about the
quality of people in our organization," said Zayach. "I have
every confidence that Joe will do an exceptional job."
Malinowski has worked for BCPH for 12 years, spending the
last eight as the Consumer Protection Program Coordinator,
responsible for the agency's food safety, vector
surveillance/control, and body art programs. He brings 12
years of supervisory experience to his new position.
Prior to working at BCPH, Malinowski served as the
Environmental Health director for the Rural Lakes Region, a
coalition of seven counties in central Kansas. The Rural
Lakes Region was responsible for developing and enforcing
sanitation codes for domestic water wells and individual
sewage disposal systems. As Consumer
Protection Program Coordinator, Malinowski has led the
county in efforts to reduce risk of diseases spread to
humans from animals, including West Nile virus, plague, and
rabies; has developed and implemented the Body Art Program
to protect the community from communicable disease
transmission at body art facilities; and has been
instrumental in increasing transparency of restaurant
inspection records by ensuring internet access to the
records. "I am excited to get started in
this new position," said Malinowski. "My goal is to continue
to uphold our public health mission to protect, promote, and
enhance the health and well-being of all people and the
environment in Boulder County. An integral part of this will
be to maintain and grow the excellent work environment and
culture in the BCPH environmental health division."
Malinowski has a dual Bachelors of Science degree in Biology
from Kansas State University. He is also a graduate of the
Regional Institute for Health and Environmental Leadership
in Colorado and the Environmental Public Health Leadership
Institute through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. He has also been recognized by the Colorado
Environmental Health Association with an Environmental
Achievement Award for outstanding achievement in the field
of environmental health. Malinowski will
begin his new position in early February 2009. |
