Award for Health
Monday, September 28, 2009
- Nick Robles, a program specialist for
Boulder County Public Health's Tobacco Education and
Prevention Partnership (TEPP), is the Boulder County
Community Action Program's (CAP) 2009 Multicultural Award
winner for the Health category. Nick will receive his award
at the Twenty-first Annual Multicultural Awards Banquet this
Thursday evening, October 1, at the Radisson Hotel in
Longmont. The banquet will recognize people
from different ethnic backgrounds who have made significant
contributions to Boulder County in the areas of arts,
business, community service, education, government, health,
partners, science, and youth.
Nick is a tireless advocate for Latino
health. He has worked diligently to ensure that
tobacco-related disparities in the Latino community are
addressed with cultural consideration and a community focus.
Nick developed and implemented an innovative project called
"Proyesto Salones de Belleza" (Beauty Salon Project), where
trained hair stylists served as Promotores to deliver
tobacco prevention messages directly to clients and their
families.
As a member of the St. Vrain Valley Latino
Coalition and a founding member of the Boulder-Broomfield
Latino Health Coalition, Nick brings community members to
the table to discuss problems and find solutions. He also
participates at the state level on the Tobacco Disparities
Advisory Committee and with the Latino State Tobacco
Prevention and Education Network, promoting research,
sharing lessons learned, and facilitating community
participation on tobacco-related issues.
Nick's hard work has made Boulder County a healthier, more
inclusive place to live and work. |
