Free Testing for Plague and Tularemia
Specimens
Due to the concerns for increased activity this year for
plague and tularemia, public health will make laboratory
testing available at no-cost to veterinarians. This no cost
testing is only available for Yersinia pestis and
Fransicella tularensis when animals have a clinical
presentation consistent with these respective diseases.
Testing for other pathogens cannot be provided at this time.
In addition, to better facilitate the surveillance and
testing for these organisms, Boulder County Public Health
will make available their courier services to transport
specimens to the state public health laboratory. The courier
schedule is as follows:

Testing for these diseases should be made in consultation
with Boulder County Public Health or the Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment due to the potential risks
to the public’s health. Upon suspicion of these diseases,
