Position Title:Foster Family Helper
Department:Housing and Human Services

Time Commitment or Project Date:Flexible Hours based on need (estimate 3 – 6 hours a week). Days of the week and hours will be chosen by volunteer to accommodate his/her schedule and to meet the unique needs of the foster family. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Boulder County to provide in community support to families.
Program Summary:

Foster families are a unique and valued asset to children and families in the foster care system and need and deserve support and reinforcement.  Matching a Foster Parent Helper to the right foster family ensures ongoing support to a foster family while at the same time offering the volunteer a great way of helping kids and families. Together you both identify the roles and duties that will be the greatest help. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties are to assist the foster family in any way possible to help retain the family as a provider for foster children. Helper’s duties may include transporting child/adolescent to  practice or tutor, providing supportive time in the home to give the caregiver time alone, grocery shopping/light errands, and/or calling on resources and activities to support a family.  Roles will be agreed on by both the family and the helper in advance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Seeking service oriented individual that is mature and has understanding of the demands of a care giver to a special needs child.  Flexible individuals who are interested in offering support to a family are encouraged to consider this opportunity. This position requires a responsive, caring individual that respects the boundaries and needs of others. Some knowledge of child development is helpful. Training provided to gain understanding of Foster Care System.

  • Attendance at 3 Day Training
  • Reliable Transportation and Insurance with current driver’s license
  • Flexible Schedule
  • Available for group supervision and/or one on one support from HHS staff
  • Must be 18 or older

Training Dates and Information:

Participation in the 24 hours of Foster Parent Core Training (Friday, Sat, Sat from 9 am – 5:30)

3 hours of Job Specific Training

Ongoing training available

Additional Information:

The Foster Care & Adoption Caseworker who supervises the foster family and will also support you. You will also have access to ongoing training, a volunteer support group, as well as individual support as needed
