Boulder County Volunteers!
Position Title:Head Start Classroom Volunteer - WEEKDAYS, DAYTIME ONLY
Department:Community Services

Time Commitment or Project Date:Minimum commitment of 4 months or 1 semester (Sept-Dec or Jan-May), which includes a minimum commitment of 2 visits per month (1-2 hours per visit). Hours of operation: M-F from 8am-4pm. Must be at least 15 to apply.
Head Start has locations in Boulder and Lafayette. We have 5 full-day classrooms in Boulder. We have 2 full-day and 2 half-day classrooms in Lafayette. Volunteers are assigned to a site based on volunteer and program needs.
Program Summary:
Boulder County Head Start is a comprehensive child development program for low-income families and children with disabilities. It is designed to meet the individual needs of children through a partnership between teachers and parents. See: http://www.bouldercounty.org/dept/communityservices/pages/bcheadstart.aspx

Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteers work directly with children during their time in the classroom. They will be asked to play with individual or groups of children, read to them, engage in games, make-believe play, or work on skills. They may help with meal time or nap time depending on the time of day.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Be 15 years or older.
  • Enjoy and relate to children ages 3-5 yrs old.
  • Be able to sit on the floor or on small chairs to work with children.
  • Be dependable and flexible.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality.
  • Pass a background check.

Training Dates and Information:

Orientation will be provided by the volunteer coordinator. On-site staff provides the site specific orientation and the teaching team provides additional volunteer training including on-the-job training.

The position will be supervised by the Head Start staff on duty during your volunteer time.
