Position Title:Staff Assistant, Juvenile Assessment Center, Justice System Volunteer Program

Time Commitment or Project Date:Must be 21 years old to apply. One 5 hour shift per week FRIDAY EVENINGS or Saturdays, for 6 months.

Program Summary:
The Juvenile Assessment Center provides booking, assessment and bonding services as well as secure lodging for up to 20 youths who have been taken into temporary custody. For more information on the Justice System Volunteer Program visit www.BoulderCountyJusticeVolunteers.org.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteers assist in conducting intake assessments that include pre-trial release planning, supervision of daily tasks/activities and escorting youth to court. Other duties include accurate maintenance of record keeping systems and liaison with outside agencies on behalf of detained youth.
Qualifications and Requirements:
AVAILABILITY ON FRIDAY EVENINGS OR SATURDAYS REQUIRED for the current opening.   Maturity, ability to set appropriate boundaries and strong communication skills are essential. Minimum age is 21. Prefer some knowledge and/or experience of at-risk youth.  Ability to work well with diverse populations and work within a team. All volunteers must pass a criminal background check.
No one will be accepted who has a DUI/DWAI conviction within the last four years.

Application Process:
Please send an email of interest to JSVP@bouldercounty.org.  Volunteers who meet minimum requirements and commit to at least 6 months will be emailed an application.
Training Dates and Information:
A one-day training includes the intake/release process, security policies, crisis intervention/prevention and motivational interviewing. Ongoing on-the-job training is given specific to volunteer needs.
Additional Information:
The open Friday shift is 4-9pm. Saturdays TBD.
JAC shifts are 8:00 am-1:00 pm, 12:00 noon-5:00 pm and 4:00-9:00 pm every  day.
