Boulder County Jail
Program Summary:
The Jail Education and Transition (JET) Program provides educational tools, life skills/reintegration classes and employment counseling for inmates who will be transitioning back into the community. The goal is to ensure that inmates are given the appropriate tools to function more effectively when back in the community and to avoid re-offending.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist jail inmates in learning successful employment techniques. Classes cover the following topics: job skills planning and how to research job search locations and employment resources, resume writing and job applications and helpful interviewing techniques.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Must be 21 years old to apply. A one year commitment is required, 2-3 hour classes once per week.
Need resume writing skills. A background in teaching/ adult education or business would be helpful. Must have the ability to work effectively with inmates while demonstrating boundaries, strong communication and problem solving skills. Personal values should include flexibility, patience, openness and a good sense of humor.

Volunteers must meet minimum qualifications, complete the JSVP application form, provide names of three professional references and must pass a criminal background check.  All volunteers are interviewed by the JSVP Volunteer/Intern Services Coordinator and have a second interview with the J.E.T. ProgramManager.
Training Dates and Information:
Volunteers will shadow several Jail Transition classes to familiarize themselves with the program and individual jail inmates. They will also be introduced to the transition resources and curriculum that are used in the program.  Jail Safety Orientation is required, and given several times per year. 
Additional Information:
 All volunteers in the Boulder County Jail must attend a Jail Safety class before placement.
