Boulder County Land Use Code Proposed Text Amendments
DC-09-0005: Evaluation of the Special Use Review Process and Uses
Proposed Land Use Code amendments for uses that would trigger Special Use
review due to its level of intensity including number of occupants, traffic
impacts, total floor area (square footage), or wastewater flow or require
Special Use review because of the use itself. Potential uses impacted by this
evaluation may include, but are not limited to, schools, camps, conference
centers, churches, resort lodges, multiple principal uses and others as
identified during the evaluation. The Land Use Department, under the direction
of the Board of County Commissioners, is embarking on a new (potentially) major
Land Use Code revision that may be of interest to you. We will be evaluating the
Special Use Review process and those uses that require Special Use approval in
unincorporated Boulder County. Our intent is to adopt new Special Use
regulations which will more predictable for property owners and neighbors alike.
We also hope to allow established Special Uses to remain vital while protecting
the rural character of unincorporated Boulder County. We are in the very early
stages of this project. This project could affect you because you may live near,
work for, or volunteer at an organization that might be impacted by upcoming
Land Use Code changes. We will be having a series of meetings in August to
talk with camp directors, pastors, headmasters, executive directors, principals,
chairpersons-of-the-board, owners, and others who are affiliated with these
types of uses. You are invited to attend any of these meetings. The agenda will
be the same, but the content of the discussion may vary based on the focus
group.
