Nederland Cemetery

Located at an elevation of 8,500 feet, the Nederland Cemetery is a classic example of a mountain cemetery with its steep terrain, native vegetation and randomly placed burials. A variety of marker styles from the unpretentious to the traditional characterize the cemetery. Originally located in town where St. Rita’s Catholic Church now stands, the cemetery was relocated around 1895 to its current site one mile north of town on land donated by the Roose family. Based upon current research there are 313 interments in the cemetery that document the history of the town and its residents from the earliest settlers to veterans of four wars. The Town of Nederland purchased the cemetery and acquired additional acreage in 1958. The cemetery is still in use.
