Community Biomass Sort Yards

There is a growing mountain pine beetle epidemic in Colorado, and its impacts are becoming more evident day by day in Boulder County. Boulder County government has been actively addressing the needs of the forest through maintenance, outreach, and education. However, there is an immediate need for community facilities to help property owners maintain a healthy forest.

The Board of County Commissioners has authorized staff to pursue amending the Land Use Code to add a use classification to help property owners cope with the impacts of the mountain pine beetle problem.

On January 21, 2009, the Planning Commission approved and recommended the Board of County Commissioners approve this text amendment to the Land Use Code by a vote of 5-0. Planning Commission recommended changing the name of this use to Forestry Processing and Sort Yard.
