Up-to-date voter registration required to receive
ballot
Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Linda Salas wants to remind all Boulder County voters that the Nov. 4, 2003 Coordinated Election is being conducted as a mail ballot election.
Ballots will automatically be mailed to registered voters whose voting status is ACTIVE. INACTIVE voters will not automatically receive a ballot. An ACTIVE voter is an elector who has registered to vote since Oct. 7, 2002 or who voted in the Nov. 6, 2002 General Election.
An INACTIVE voter is a registered voter who failed to vote in the November 2002 General Election. Inactive voters are considered "registered to vote," but must reactivate their record before a ballot will be issued to them.
If an Inactive voter no longer resides at their "address of record," the voter needs to update his or her voter registration with the new address. Updating the record will make the voter ACTIVE again.
If the inactive voter has not moved, the voter needs to stop by the Clerk and Recorder's office or complete a voter registration form to reactivate their record. This can be done at the Boulder County Clerk's main office at 1750 33rd St. in Boulder or at one of our two branch offices (722 Main St. in Louisville or 529 Coffman St. in Longmont).
If the reactivation is completed on or before Oct. 6, 2003 (the last day to register to vote) the voter will receive a ballot automatically. If the record is reactivated after Oct. 6, the voter will not automatically receive a ballot in the mail and the elector must formally request one.
To formally request a ballot, or to get an emergency voter registration, an elector must appear, in person, at the main office of the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder, 1750 33rd Street in Boulder.
Voter registration forms are available at all Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's offices; the Louisville City Clerk's office; Colorado Driver License Bureaus; and at most public libraries. You may also print out a copy of the form from the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Web site (<http://www.co.boulder.co.us/clerk>). The web site also contains other election information. The Clerk's offices are open Mon. - Fri. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or you may call the Elections Division at 303-413-7740 for more information.
Because of new Federal and Colorado election laws, when any person registers to vote, the last four digits of his or her Social Security number AND their Colorado Driver License (or Colorado ID) number MUST be provided on the form.
If a voter has registered to vote by mail since Jan. 1, 2003 and has not since provided the required ID, the information must be included in the return envelope when their voted ballot is mailed back. Place the information on a sheet of paper within the return envelope but NOT inside the Security Envelope.
In the future, each voter will be required to provide proper ID when voting at the polls.
