Boulder County is the only jurisdiction to win the
Distinguished Assessment Jurisdiction award three times
(Boulder County, Colo.) - The Boulder County's Assessor's Office has received the 2007 Distinguished Assessment Jurisdiction award from the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), the industry's professional organization. It is the third time in the 25-year history of the award that Boulder County has been recognized for its exemplary, innovative leadership in the field of property assessment.
Trish Dunbar, Enterprise Deputy for the Assessor's Office, presented the award today to Assessor Jerry Roberts and former Assessor Cindy Domenico before the Board of County Commissioners. The award is the highest agency-level recognition presented by IAAO and is bestowed upon an assessment agency that has instituted a technical, procedural or administrative program that is recognized as a "component of a model assessment system and a contributor to equity in property taxation."
Boulder County received the 2007 award for its use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to improve the Assessor's ability to set fair and equitable property values and for the illustrative annual Notice of Value (NOV) that gives residents clear, visual information by which they can map, view and compare their property values to others in the county. Both the GIS and NOV assets allow Boulder County residents to access and compare much more detailed information about their property values than other jurisdictions around the country.
Upon receiving the award, Assessor Jerry Roberts said, "I'm pleased to accept this award on behalf of the staff in the Assessor's Office who go beyond the call of duty every day to make Boulder County's property assessment methods the best in the nation for our county residents."
Following up on his remarks, former Assessor (and current County Commissioner) Cindy Domenico stated, "It is indeed due to the hard work and the visionary nature of the County Assessor's Office that we are honored to receive this significant recognition for the third time, the most of any assessment jurisdictions in the country."
A transcript of Ms. Dunbar's presentation of the award including a list of past and present award recipients is attached to this release.
