Boulder County appoints Land Use Director

Acting Director Dale Case selected for position effective June 2

(BOULDER COUNTY, COLO.) – The Boulder County Commissioners have appointed Dale Case as director of the Boulder County Land Use Department, effective Monday, June 2, 2008.

Case has served as the acting director of Land Use since February, when former director Graham Billingsley resigned his post to pursue his own consulting business. Prior to serving as acting director, Case served as the County’s Chief Planner, overseeing the department’s daily technical and planning operations. He has worked for the Boulder County Land Use Department for 15 years.

Case was selected after a competitive, open recruiting process in which the Commissioners determined he was the best candidate for the position. His familiarity with the Land Use Department, his commitment to the County vision and values, his technical expertise and his customer service orientation made him stand out above other applicants for the job.

“We were very pleased when Dale expressed interest in serving as Land Use Director. He exemplifies the kind of character, competence and commitment to public service that we were looking for in a candidate, and we believe he will skillfully carry out the vision and mission of the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan,” County Commissioner Cindy Domenico said.

Case graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor’s in Public Administration and earned his Master’s Degree in Planning, Design and Development from Cleveland State University. He worked for the U.S. Bureau of the Census as an assistant manager for field operations and then as a field crew leader prior to joining Boulder County as a Planner II in 1993.

Promoted to Chief Planner in 2004, Case oversaw a staff of 15, developed and administered division policies, participated in public hearings relating to planning/policy decisions, coordinated an upgrade of the department’s building tracking program, and coordinated improvements to intergovernmental and interdepartmental working relations.

He has also served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Colorado at Denver College of Architecture and Planning.

“I am delighted to accept this position and excited to be working with an extremely talented staff as we move forward with County initiatives aimed at rural preservation, sustainability and excellence in public service,” Case said.

Case lives with his wife and daughter in the City of Louisville.
