Community forestry sort yard operations extended to mid-September

County residents may continue to use tree and slash drop-off site
just north of Allenspark/Meeker Park through Sept. 19

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – The community forestry sort yard on the Peak-to-Peak Highway near Meeker Park will remain open through Saturday, Sept. 19. Originally scheduled to close on Aug. 15, the site will remain open for an additional month to give residents in the mountain communities more time to drop off forested wood from their private properties.

Residents may continue to drop off non-beetle-infested logs, branches and slash during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, through mid-September. The site is located north of Meeker Park on Highway 7, about one-eighth of a mile north of the Boulder/Larimer County line on the east side of the road. Boulder County operates the site free of charge to the community in partnership with Larimer County.

In late summer and early fall when mountain pine beetles take flight from already-infested trees, the transportation of beetle-infested wood can accelerate pine beetle activity in the mountains; thus, “hot” wood is not accepted during beetle flight (roughly mid-July through late-September).

The forestry sort yard program was established to help landowners dispose of wood cut on private lands to improve defensible space around homes and to create a healthier forest ecosystem.
