A mystery awaits, in a county park full of
clues…
Kids 11 and under are
invited to join the Nature Detectives Club
(click for pdf poster), a new program
beginning June 1 that is designed to increase kid’s appreciation of nature, while enjoying an
interactive family day in the park.
The Nature Detectives
Club works like a scavenger hunt. Kids and parents take a “mystery
guide” from the brochure kiosk, and complete activities along the
trail.
Each guide has a
map of the park,
and six
mysteries to solve along the trail. If kids complete activities at
all three parks, they can mail in their mystery guides to receive a
sleuthing prize, a certificate, and see their name appear in an issue of
Images. Members of the Nature Detectives Club who
complete the series for multiple years will receive unique prizes.
This year, the three
Nature Detectives Club parks are
Betasso Preserve,
Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm, and
Caribou Ranch (see
map,
driving
directions) Caribou Ranch will be closed for the elk calving
season until July 1. These places represent the wide variety of
wildlife, plant life, and cultural history found throughout Boulder
County. Each year the Nature Detectives Club will encounter a
new set of mysteries in different parks.
You will find mystery
guides in the park kiosks near the trailhead. Large groups and
individuals can also get Nature Detectives Club guides in the
mail.
