Fairgrounds Park & Lake
Fairgrounds Lake Park was
constructed in 1987 from old gravel pits along St. Vrain Creek. With volunteer help
from the Mile
High Bass Pioneers of Longmont, a fish habitat and fishery were created
from old gravel pits along St. Vrain Creek. Fairgrounds Lake Park is located at the intersection of Hover Road and
Boston Avenue in Longmont.
The Fairgrounds complex has campgrounds and
special event facilities, which are available
for lease.
The 16-acre lake is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill and channel
catfish. Catch and release fishing is
allowed. Anglers must use terminal tackle, such as flies and lures. Creel
limits for all species other than largemouth and smallmouth bass must
adhere to the
Colorado Wildlife Commission regulations.
Except for float tubes, all boats are prohibited.
Boulder County Parks and Open Space sponsor three Catfish Nights at
Fairgrounds Lake
each summer. In 2009, Catfish Nights will be held June 24, July 22 and August
19.
Dates for Catfish Nights vary each year to coincide with the moon cycle. Please contact
Dave Hoerath at
(303) 678-6204, for more information.
Anglers must have a current Colorado fishing license and are welcome to
drop-in anytime during the evenings' special events. Since night fishing
isn't permitted at Fairgrounds Lake, anglers participating in these
special events must register. Registration is free and takes place at
the Fairgrounds Lake parking lot off Boston Ave.
Anglers cannot use live bait, but worms and stink bait are
permitted. Shore fishing only.
Fairgrounds Lake also includes Cattail
Pond for children. Fishing is limited to youth under 16. The creel limit
is 4 fish per day. Kids under 16 years of age do not require a Colorado
fishing license.
A large group picnic shelter, which can accommodate groups of over
100 people, is available for lease at Fairgrounds Park. For leasing
information, please call Rebecca Harp at (303) 678-6235. The lake area
also has individual picnic tables available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
In addition, the Fairgrounds complex has several facilities available
for lease for special events, including five barns, parking lots, indoor
and outdoor arenas and an Exhibit Building.
For more information on shelter reservations,
campgrounds or special event facilities, please call Rebecca Harp at
(303) 678-6235. Information on the use and lease of the facilities is
also available in the
Fairgrounds Policy Manual.
