Call for nominations for the 2008 Land Conservation Awards
Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is currently accepting
2008 nominations for the County’s annual Land Conservation Awards. The
2008 awards will be presented at a ceremony in early 2009.

Nominations will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2008. Anyone may nominate
individuals, families or organizations that have made outstanding
contributions in Boulder County in one of the following categories:
- Land Conservation
- Environmental Stewardship
- Historic Preservation
Please note, nominating one’s self or an organization of which one is
an officer or director is not permitted. Federal, state, county, special
district and municipal government agencies are also not eligible.
Special consideration will be given to land conservation or historic
preservation activities that particularly affect unincorporated Boulder
County and for activities that demonstrate ongoing effort or a one-time
effort resulting in lasting benefit to the County’s environmental
landscape. Other award selection criteria include conservation
activities that are a model for others or that increase public awareness

Since 1992, Boulder County has honored
individuals or groups with its Land Conservation Award for outstanding
contributions made to the conservation, preservation and protection of
the county’s land-based environmental resources.
These contributions have included achievements in agriculture, wildlife
habitat, forestry, open space and conservation education and volunteer
services.
Last year’s award recipients were the Van Thuyne family, for excellence
in Land Conservation; Sigrid Ueblacker, founder and executive director
of the Birds of Prey Foundation, for outstanding contributions made in
Environmental Stewardship; Dr. Alan Villavicencio for outstanding
achievement in historic preservation of the Cito Barn. The two volunteer
awards were presented to Ann Cooper for her outstanding contribution as
a natural history volunteer for 30 years and to Clarence Kneebone for
outstanding contribution as a volunteer 4-H leader for 39 years.
The Boulder County Commissioners will
present the awards at date and time to be announced in February 2009.
