Background
Since 1992, Boulder County has honored
individuals or groups with its Land Conservation Award for outstanding
contributions made to the conservation, preservation and protection of
the county’s land-based environmental resources.
Last year’s award recipients were:
Craig Sterkel, Land Conservation Award, for outstanding
stewardship of County-owned land;
Ben Turner with the ¡Cultiva! Youth Project of Growing Gardens,
Environmental Stewardship Award, for his youth-operated organic
market garden; and
June Peterson Howard, Heritage Award, for the preservation of
the Pilot Mine and Shaft House in the Sunshine community.
Two volunteer awards were presented to Diane Karash
for her outstanding contribution as a cultural history volunteer since
1994 and to Tina Pohlmann for outstanding contribution as an
Extension volunteer promoting food preservation.
This year an additional volunteer award will be given for Partner
of the Year. In order to be eligible for this award a group must be
an Alpine Partner in the Partnership Initiative Program.
Award selection criteria will include number of hours of service and
amount of work accomplished by a partnership team, level of independence
of the team and additional contributions other than volunteer work.
The Boulder County Commissioners will present the awards at a ceremony
during volunteer week in April 2010.
