2008 Land Conservation Awards

The Boulder County Commissioners presented the
2008 Land Conservation Awards on February 18, 2009,
at 3:00 p.m.
at the Parks and Open Space Building,
5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont, CO.

Congratulations to this year's award winners!

 
Land Conservation: Craig Sterkel
For outstanding achievement in land preservation through outstanding stewardship of County-owned land and many contributions towards the County goal to preserve agricultural land.
 
Environmental Stewardship: Ben Turner, ¡Cultiva! Youth Project of Growing Gardens

For outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship through the ¡Cultiva! youth-operated organic market garden.

 
Historic Preservation: June Peterson Howard

For commitment toward historic preservation through the purchase and preservation of the Pilot Mine and Shaft House in the Sunshine community.
 

Volunteer: Diane Karash

For outstanding contributions as a Volunteer Naturalist and Cultural History Volunteer for Boulder County Parks and Open Space since 1994.

 

Volunteer: Tina Pohlmann

For outstanding contributions towards educating the Boulder County community about the Extension office and food preservation, the 4-H club and the Boulder County Fair.

Background

Since 1992, Boulder County has honored individuals or groups with its Land Conservation Award for outstanding contributions made to the conservation, preservation and protection of the county’s land-based environmental resources.

These contributions have included achievements in agriculture, wildlife habitat, forestry, open space and conservation education and volunteer services.

Last year’s award winners were the Van Thuyne family, for excellence in Land Conservation; Sigrid Ueblacker with the Birds of Prey Foundation, for outstanding contributions made in Environmental Stewardship; Dr. Alan Villavicencio, for historic preservation of the Cito Barn; and Extension Volunteer Clarence Kneebone and Volunteer Naturalist Ann Cooper for Outstanding Volunteer services.
