Project Background

  • The Boulder County Parks & Open Space and Transportation Departments and our partners are working to complete the Coal Creek and Rock Creek Trails in the greater Superior area. Other trail connections in the area were first depicted in the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan.

  • The trail corridor project area includes property owned and managed by Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department, Town of Superior Open Space, and City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks.

  • The product of this planning effort will be a regional trail corridor alignment; detailed engineering and construction will take place over the next several years.
The Trail Corridor Management Plan will address:
  • Regional Trail Connections
  • Habitat Protection
  • Natural Resources
  • Agricultural Management
  • Cultural Resources
Project Progress

The project team has held two public meetings and has gathered community feedback on the conceptual trail alignments from the Marshall Mesa area to Superior, and from Superior to the Coalton Trail. A preferred trail alignment has been developed that takes into consideration the diverse constraints and opportunities in the project area.

See the maps below to learn more about the resources in the project area and to view a map of the preferred trail alignment.

During the next few months, our project consultants and staff will be developing a trail management plan. This plan will likely be presented to the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee at their July or August meeting, followed by presentation to the Board of County Commissioners. This webpage will be updated when the dates for those hearings are scheduled.
