Jointly Owned Boulder County & City of Lafayette Open Space Management
Plan Amendment
Planning for the Stephenson-Nelson Property
The draft Amendment to the Jointly Owned Boulder County & City of
Lafayette Open Space Management Plan is being presented to the Lafayette Open Space Advisory
Committee (LOSAC) on February 1, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. at Lafayette City Hall (1290 S.
Public Road).

- Boulder County and City of Lafayette purchased the 166-acre
Stephenson-Nelson parcel in January 2006.
- Significant addition to the joint holdings, which increased from 232 acres
to 398 acres.
- The Stephenson-Nelson parcel is located on the eastern edge of
Boulder County, adjacent to industrial uses, open space land, and
Broomfield’s Anthem development.
- The addition of Stephenson-Nelson to the jointly owned property with
the City of Lafayette created a need to update the management plan.
Notable Features of the Stephenson-Nelson Property:
- Riparian area and confluence of Coal and Rock Creeks
- Upland area with beautiful views
- Prairie dogs & burrowing owl
- 6 Oil & Gas wells
- Connection for Rock and Coal Creek Trails (planned in the Coal
Creek-Rock Creek Trail Corridor Master Plan)
