A Senior's Fish-off is held the first Friday in May every year. Summer Catfish Nights at Fairgrounds Lake is an annual summer program. Refer to the fishing guide for details about fishing on open space.

No ice fishing is allowed at any Boulder County Open Space pond.

Reservoir Fishing

Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat

Walden Ponds features several ponds reclaimed from gravel pits. The ponds have been stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill. With the exception of Wally Toevs Pond, all ponds are catch and release, artificial flies and lures only. Wally Toevs Pond is restricted to seniors and/or handicapped individuals and requires a state fishing license. Wally Toevs Pond is stocked with rainbow trout during the spring and fall months.

Lagerman Reservoir

This 116-acre reservoir is located 2.5 miles southwest of Longmont. Lagerman Reservoir has been stocked with largemouth bass, walleye, black crappie, bluegill, tiger muskie, and channel catfish. Bass possessed must be 15 inches or longer. Tiger muskie must be 36 inches or longer. Bank and boat fishing are permitted. Only non-motorized vessels and boats with electric or gasoline motors of 7.5 horsepower of less are permitted on the water. Vessels are restricted to wake-less speeds (less than 5 mph.) Sailboats and sailboards are not allowed. There is a seasonal closure (April 1st through July 31) on the western end of the reservoir for nesting birds.

Fairgrounds Lake

This 16-acre pond is located at the Fairgrounds Park in Longmont. Fairgrounds Lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish. Fishing is by artificial flies and lures only, catch and release. These regulations are relaxed for Summer Catfish Nights where night fishing with bait is allowed. Dates for Catfish Nights vary to coincide with the moon cycle and are held one Wednesday each summer month -- June, July, and August.

Cattail Pond is expressly for children under 16 (who don't need a license). It is across the street from Fairgrounds Lake, behind the arena and is a wonderful place to introduce young people to fishing.

Pella Crossing

There are three reservoirs at Pella Crossing: the large Heron and Sunset Lakes, where bellyboating is allowed; and the smaller Webster Pond. They have been stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, yellow perch, and channel catfish. Boating is not permitted on Webster Pond to protect its value as waterfowl habitat.

Stearns Lake at Rock Creek Farm

This 23-acre reservoir is located on Rock Creek Farm at 104th and Dillon Roads, south of Louisville. Stearns Lake is part of a historic irrigation system. The reservoir is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, tiger muskie and channel catfish. Boating is not permitted. There is a small permanent closure to protect the wetlands along the western shore.

Stream Fishing

South Boulder Creek at Walker Ranch

South Boulder Creek flows for 2.5 miles through the rugged, forested slopes of Walker Ranch. The creek is periodically stocked with rainbow trout. Both bait and fly fishing are permitted. Anglers can gain access to this area by hiking the South Boulder Creek Trail approximately one mile.
