Operations
Parks
and Open Space Operations is responsible for the design, construction and
maintenance of all trails and facilities on all open space properties. The
Operations Team consists of 27 full-time employees organized into 4
different work groups.
In 2006, the Operations Team worked on many projects. Below is
a list of projects that the team worked on.
Public Education Projects:
- New restroom, lighting, & pole barn at the
Agriculture Heritage Center at Lohr MacIntosh Farm
- Interpretive Panels at various Parks and Museums
Historic Preservation Projects:
- Stabilization work at Cardinal Mill
- Opened the James F. Bailey Museum / Wall Street Assay Office
- Improvements to the Barrett Farmhouse for artifact storage
- Restoration work at the DeLonde Cabin and Barn at Caribou Ranch
- Planning and design work for the Harney-Lastoka property
- Restoration work at the Ramey Homestead
- Painting of the farm buildings at Rock Creek Farm
Trails and Facilities Projects:
- New boardwalk, restroom and kiosk at Mud Lake
- Continued work on the new Wild Turkey Trail at Heil Valley Ranch
- New boardwalks, bridges, kiosk and trail improvements at Twin
Lakes
- New parking lot at Walker Ranch Loop Trailhead
- Created a Master Trail Plan for Niwot
- Built a new home for the Caribou Ranch Caretaker
- Trail Maintenance at various Parks
- Constructed the Cottontail Trail in Niwot
- Fencing at Lefthand Valley Grange
- New sidewalk on Boulder Canyon Trail
- Resurfaced roads at Legion Park, Meyers Homestead and Lagerman
Reservoir
Youth Corps Projects:
- Historic Restoration on the buildings at Walker Ranch
- Fence work at Walker Ranch
- Trail Maintenance on 7.5 miles of trail throughout the
County
- Trail Construction of the new trail link between Walker Ranch
and Meyers Homestead
More Information about Operations
In addition to major projects, the Operations Team are busy maintaining the
existing trails and facilities which include: more than 20 parking lots
with about 625 parking spaces, 15 restrooms, 15 picnic shelters, 115
picnic tables, about 85 miles of trails with 21 bridges, miles of fence,
and hundreds of historical and agricultural structures. Operations also
demolishes unsafe structures, clean up new properties and restores houses
acquired with new open space properties.
