The South Boulder Creek Trailhead and Parking Areas at Walker Ranch
Reopen
Construction at Boulder County's South Boulder Creek Trailhead--now
known as the Walker Ranch Loop Trailhead--is
complete as of November 13. Only minor work for the permanent restroom
facility and the Meyers Homestead
connection remains, but
visitors may use the area. Planned construction at the site began in August and extended
through early November 2006.

The scope of the work included a new entry road into the
parking lot and the Homestead area, which eliminated the small “Winter
Lot” off Flagstaff Road. The parking lot was expanded from 24 spaces to
50, and the access road to the lot was reconstructed. In addition,
a new trail connection from the northern Meyers Homestead Trail was
added along with a permanent restroom facility for the Walker Ranch Loop
Trailhead.
When the
South Boulder Creek Trailhead was originally constructed in the early
1980’s, annual visitation to Walker Ranch Open Space was estimated at
2,000 people. Today, annual visitation for the South Boulder Creek
Trailhead alone exceeds 30,000, and annual visitation estimates for all
of Walker Ranch Open Space exceeds 110,000.
